Designed for Union Cowork space in San Diego. The idea of multiple cubes coming together symbolizing the coming together of different people in one work space. The light was designed to be hung in a converted industrial building, mixing the modern with the raw exposed elements of the building. The light took on that aesthetic as it leaves the connections and fastenings raw and exposed. A natural sealant on the ply wood leaves it feeling raw while the configuration of the cubes brings the refinement of the concept.
The light plays off the contrast between the rough texture of the oxidized corten steel and the smooth raw warmth of the plywood. It’s a light that is simple and modern with an industrial twist.
The adjustability of this light is what brings its sculptural nature. Its can be reconfigured in multiple different positions to accommodate for its use. The simplicity of the elements coming together creates a complexity that can adjust to the user. Grounded with a raw piece of concrete with the grain of the of the formwork imprinted on it. The raw plywood brings a softness to the otherwise angular and industrial fixture.
Designed to be outdoors in a coastal climate this table and bench is built to last. Ipe wood is used for these pieces and can ultimately be left untreated, however if oiled it will retain its original color and sheen. The steel is powder coated and built to last. Inspired by the angles of midcentury the pieces bring an elegant refinement to an outdoor furniture set.
